Let's pay close attention as we consider this valuable excerpt of " Finding Personal and Business Fulfillment”
The key to changing ones internal stories is to find a sense of fulfillment in important parts of your life. When you are happy and content with how your life is, your inner stories will automatically become more positive.
So how can you go about finding fulfillment in your life?
In the final module of this e-course, we look at some of the most effective ways to find fulfillment, even when you are feeling stuck. By following the methods outlined in this module, you will soon be switching those negative stories that you've been telling yourself, into more positive, empowering stories.
In order to find fulfillment, you are going to need to focus on your growth. It's also important to realize that this is an ongoing process. You won't find fulfillment overnight, but you will start to feel more content as you make the necessary changes.
You Must Develop True Connections with Others
It's going to be hard to find fulfillment if you don't have true connections with those around you. So, what is meant by “true connections”?
True (or authentic) connections means you can show your vulnerability in the relationship and there is no façade, or pretense. You will be interested in what they say, listening without judgement to any problems they may have and vice versa. You won't need to pretend you are OK when you aren't, and you can simply be your true self around them.
These true connections are rewarding, and they make us feel genuinely happier. You will come away from the interaction feeling positive, happier, and content.
So how can you form these genuine connections?
Here are a few important tips you can follow to start developing more true connections in your life . . . .
Opening up and relinquishing your fears of rejection builds trust and honesty with others, also fosters empathy, and builds stronger bonds.
You can't have genuine connections with others if you don't allow yourself to be vulnerable. You may not be sharing things about your life and your passions, which in turn limits your opportunity to connect with others.
True connections require a level of vulnerability. Without it, you won't come across as genuine and others will struggle to get to know you.
#2 - Know Where to Look
Even if you feel that you don't have any true connections in your life right now, it is possible to find them. You need to focus on finding people who share the same goals and values as you do.
The best places to find true connections are linked to your personal passions and hobbies, as well as your work or business. Is there a local group you could join that caters to your interests? If you are comfortable online, is there a social media group you could join to meet like-minded individuals?
While social media can damage the connections we have with others; self- employed individuals in service businesses can find it to be a great place to find like-minded people. Try to find local groups when possible so you have the opportunity to meet up in person.
When you surround yourself with like-minded people, it boosts your confidence, makes you happier, and you will feel more fulfilled.
#3 - Don't Be Afraid to Reach Out
Life happens, and it often takes us away from friends and family. If you have drifted away from your friends and loved ones, don't be afraid to reach out to them.
Make a call to a friend who you haven't spoken to for a while. Arrange to meet up for a coffee. It is never too late to reconnect with the people you care about. Just because you don't have a true connection right now, doesn't mean the relationship can't be nurtured.
It's also worth committing to calling a family member you haven't spoken to in a while. Once you have reconnected, make the effort to keep in touch. You might just be surprised by how great you feel afterwards.
#4 - Work on Your Active Listening Skills
To make real connections, the ability to listen is a crucial skill you're going to need. Unless you truly listen to someone, you will never fully get to know them. It also prevents you from making a true connection as you won't be in tune with what they are going through.
To actively listen takes practice. Many of us get into the habit of listening for the part of the conversation where we can get our own point across. We don't really pay attention to what is being said. Instead, we simply wait for our own turn to speak.
When you actively listen to someone, you aren't thinking about responding. Instead, you are paying full attention to what is being said. Once the person has stopped speaking, you can give them a proper reply based on everything you heard.
To become a more active listener, don't interrupt the other person when they are speaking. Give them eye contact and really pay attention to what they are saying. Don't automatically start imposing your own thoughts and opinions on the topic or wait for your turn to reply. Work on being in the moment and listen intently to what is being said.
