The 5 Steps to Crafting a
Compelling Marketing Message

by Lee Pemberton - eCleanAdvisor Business Coach

                             Blog Post #2:

You may only get one chance to tell your target market about the unique benefits your specialty cleaning services offer!
In order to do this, you have to craft the right marketing message that will grab your target customer's attention and convince them to buy.

Here are 5 steps to crafting a compelling marketing message.

   **#1 – “Know Your Audience”

The 5 Steps to Crafting a &##xd;&##xa;Compelling Marketing Message
The first step is to get to know your market to as an individual level as possible.
You need to understand who they are and how they feel before you can sell to them.
In order to be able to do this, you should create a customer profile that includes demographic information as well as data on their values and behaviors. You need to identify the struggle they face so that you can help them overcome it with your services.

You may have a good idea of your target market already, but in order to create an effective profile, you need to use objective data from the members of this market segment themselves. Find out where this segment hangs out online and go there to engage with them and listen to them to gain some insights.

**#2 – “Discover What Sets You Apart”

Your market probably has a few companies offering similar cleaning services that claim to help solve the same problems.

Because of this, your marketing message needs to explain clearly "'what makes you different"!
This is referred to as  “Your Unique Value Preposition”.
This must show clearly where you fit in this segment of the market!

As mentioned previously, you may have an idea of what sets you apart, but you'll need to conduct some research to truly nail it down.
    (a) Start by looking at the competition to see what they offer and compare it to yours.
    (b) You can also uncover your unique selling point by talking to your customers.
              >
Ask them why they chose you over a competitor
              >
or why they continue to buy from you.
They'll tell you what makes you special!

   **#3 – “Craft Your Message”
Now that you know who your market is and what they like about your services, you can create a marketing message that emphasizes this key point.
Your “marketing message” should be short and clear so that anyone who glances at it will understand it immediately.

  (a) It should discuss your service processes in terms of how they uniquely helps the customer solve their problems.
  (b)  It should explain each feature in terms of the benefit it offers.
  (c)  Paint a picture of what the customer's life will be like once they're using your services.

  **#4 – “Adjust and Communicate”
Once you have your basic “marketing message” copy created, the next step is to decide where you will use it.
Identify the marketing channels you use to communicate with your audience.

Choose the types of content and adjust your message to suit each.

EXAMPLE: You might have a blog on your company website.

  (A) Through the blog, give your audience helpful tips to solve a problem they're facing. At the end of each post, deliver your marketing message and give readers a call-to-action.

  (B) Adapt in the same way for: videos, email newsletters, social media content, and all other content types.

   **#5 – “Review and Refine”
Once you start using your marketing message, monitor all your content and communication channels to see what's working and what isn't.
Make minor changes and test to see which components convert best.
You can keep refining your message over time to make it even more effective.
