How to Keep Your ICP
“Customer-Focused”
Blog Post #5:
Once you are comfortable with your “Ideal Customer Profile”, you should be already putting it to use in your marketing. You will note that you are now recognizing the right customers & prospects to focus on, as well as how to communicate more efficiently with them, improving your lead generation process.
But no matter how effective your ICP becomes, it's always a work in progress! From time to time, you'll need to review & refine it. This process will encourage you to keep up to date on market changes. It will also help you drill down and get more specific so you can be ‘Custom-Focused' on your 'Ideal Customer Profile'.
When is the right time to revise your ICP? Over a period of time, you'll notice that there are changes occurring in your market or among your customers.
You might see a new pattern emerging.
FOR EXAMPLE:
Cleaning services are dealing with an overwhelming change in floor coverings! (or lack of)
This has been coupled with a massive change in attitudes regarding pets in homes, vehicles & in the workplace! Plus, a growing demand for cleaning and special care for specialty area rugs.
**#2 - Keep Communication Going
You should keep your lines of communication open and continue to gather feedback consistently after the first version of your ICP is completed and in use. Keep alert for ways to stimulate dialogue so that there's two-way communication.
Surveys are a great way to keep gathering information so you can maintain your “Customer-Focus”. You can conduct short, simple surveys on social media or your website and reach out to loyal customers for more detailed feedback.
**#3 - Local Marketplace Trends (including competitors)
Keep up with the latest news and trends that are or can affect your local market. You may also discover useful insights from competitors' newsletters and other marketing materials.
NOTE: Don't focus just on current trends. Look to the future. For example, you might see the emergence of a new cleaning technology that's going to change how your customers can protect their pets in their home environment.
**#4 - Revise Your ICP Regularly
Update ‘your' ideal customer profile at regular intervals! Set aside time to review your data and make changes as necessary. Get your team members involved as they may have ideas and insight.
Don't Leave Anything out
Remember that any change, no matter how seemingly insignificant, may be important. Take note of any trends you see and don't leave anything out. Any change could necessitate updating your marketing strategy or could yield new opportunities.
