It's The Total Process, Not Just the Product!
Let me share an experience with you that I had just recently:
A friend's elderly mother accidentally urinated on his carpet. He did all he could to remove the urine, but of course the volume of urine from an adult human is much more than from most pets, so nothing he could do could prevent it from penetrating deeply into the carpet cushion.
After work the same day, I went over to his place to see if I could help, and (because I was in a hurry), I convinced myself that a topical application of my favorite urine odor treatment, 'UnDuzIt Unleashed', would take care of the problem.
After spraying the surface and raking it in, I left and casually told him to call if the odor returned.
The next morning he called me, and said that the odor was not only back, but still strong, and could I help? This happened to be the day I had to leave to teach a class out of town, so I stopped by when I was on my way (in a hurry again), and this time I sprayed the product onto the carpet full strength, and forced it into the backing as best as I could.
Unfortunately, I received a call from him the very next day (Sunday) that the odor had returned!
Finally on Monday, I used the following "process" and did what I should have done from the very beginning:
#1 - I diluted the product as directed, and poured it from a bucket onto and around the affected area.
#2 - I allowed the product to work for an hour (for me a long time, but had I been hired to clean his carpet or upholstery, there were plenty of other things I could have done there).
#3 - Using a sub surface extraction tool, I removed the excess solution and liquefied urine, then followed by pouring an equal amount of clear water onto and around the affected area, followed by a second sub-surface extraction to rinse out the remaining urine residues.
The urine (and the odor) is now completely removed, and a few days later I actually cupped my hands & pressed my nose into the area (an unpleasant task, but I wanted to be sure this time!) I could detect no urine odor, and none has returned since!
The Lesson?
There is no magic bullet for urine odor removal. No product, no matter how well formulated, can replace the 'process' needed to get your treatment to the source and remove it!
SUMMARY:
Between the new relationship that people have with pets that have made them 4 legged family members, and the need that many have to care for the elderly in their homes in today's environment, the demand for urine odor treatment services is skyrocketing.
In a busy work day, you too might be tempted to not use your available products in the way that they should be used (the process), but in so doing, you'll only be coming back to do it again, or worse you'll have a customer who is unhappy with your service and will not call you back.
I remember something my father said to me when I was very young:
"There is a saying that there is never enough time to do things right, but always enough time to do them right the second time! Just do things right the first time."
Good counsel for a child, and good counsel for a cleaning professional!
