Is The "CRB" One of The Most Important Tools You Can Own?

by Jim Pemberton - Cleaning Care Specialist

The flooring industry is changing at a breathtaking place. From homes to offices to the hospitality trade, wall to wall carpet is being removed, and hard surfaces and area rugs are taking its place.

Cleaners are finding themselves needing to make a choice: Either fight for a share of a shrinking market, or adapt to the change and expand into area rug and hard surface cleaning. While there are many types of equipment and tools needed for these two (seemingly) dissimilar services, there is one that is extremely useful for both!

Counter Rotating Brush Machines, commonly known as  "CRBs" should be part of every cleaning company's "arsenal" today.

Here's Why:

1. Hard Surface Cleaning:

Tile and grout flooring, as well as vinyl plank (often known as "LVT" or "LVP") flooring clean far better, and quicker, when a CRB with hard surface brushes is  used for agitating ground in soils. Splashing is minimized, and excess water is picked up by "renovators" that are attached as "catch trays" on better CRB machines.  After a CRB is used, loosed soil can be quickly extracted by rinsing, wet vacuuming, or mopping.

2. Area Rug Cleaning:

If rugs cannot be easily removed and transported for in plant cleaning,  a CRB can be  used for low moisture or dry compound cleaning of rugs on location.  With the (unfortunate) growth in rugs made from non durable viscose and related fibers, dry compound cleaning has made a place for itself as an alternative for cleaning rugs made from these materials.  While using low moisture and dry compound methods of cleaning in the home may be something cleaners find themselves uncomfortable with, the fact remains that many consumers prefer these methods, and they make even more sense when rugs are placed on moisture or chemically sensitive flooring materials, such as wood or stone.

3. Commercial Carpet Maintenance.

The one place wall to wall carpet remains strong (for now) is in commercial locations.  "Encapsulation Cleaning" has proven to be an excellent method of maintaining a carpet's appearance with minimal labor and material costs.  A CRB machine not only performs this method well, it is also an excellent pile lifter for better dry soil removal.

The cleaning world has changed nearly beyond recognition from the turn of the century.  The changes you need to make to grow with, instead of fight against, these changes are many.   A good start is looking at the ways you can expand your market, and/or keep your market share, with the services a CRB machine provides.
