From "Infographics to Action”
Simplify Complex Ideas by Using
Visual Graphic Storytelling!

by Lee Pemberton - eCleanAdvisor Business Coach

       Blog Post #2:

       (part#2 of 5)

“An infographic is a piece of visual content that combines data visualization such as images, graphics, and storytelling, all wrapped up in a compelling storytelling approach to share valuable information. “

Infographics are particularly good at breaking down complex topics and making them easy to understand.

EXAMPLES:  An infographic might be:

>>> A series of bullet-pointed tips on a particular topic with graphics

>>> The explanation of a “system” like a home's plumbing or heat & cooling airflow

>>> A tutorial that shows how to clean something step by step

>>> Step by step comparisons of several stain removal cleaning systems

>>> A history that shows milestones of cleaning systems over the years

Any information can be conveyed into an attention-grabbing, easy-to-understand format in this format. Infographics are engaging and very often used on social media.

SPECIAL NOTE:
As a skilled cleaning professional, this flexible information sharing technique offers you the chance to build a better relationship with your employee's, prospects, or customers by providing this complex type of information in a way they can understand it.

**#1 – “Choose Your Tools”
The first step is to choose a tool for making your infographic.
Free, open-source, or premium software programs like Vinngage, Canva, and Infogram exist at different costs.
They make it easy to create your content, and they offer many templates.

**#2 – “Set a Goal”
Before you get started, choose a goal for your project.
>>>  Who is your focus, & what do you want to share with your audience?
>>>  What ‘pain' issue can you resolve for them?
>>>  What data can you present to them visually?
Identifying this clear goal in the beginning will help you keep it focused as you proceed.

**#3 – “Plan Your Layout”
>>>  Once you know your goal, you can gather the elements of your infographic.
>>>  Storyboarding is recommended as a suitable method to plan before you start              designing.

Storyboarding is a visual planning technique long used in film and animation where you map out each “scene” of the video.
>>>  You can create a big-picture outline before you get started.
>>>  This helps you outline and ensure that each element is on-topic and
       you're not leaving anything out.

**#4 – “Gather Information”
Next, you're ready to fill in the details.
>>>  Gather the information your viewer needs to get the message.

Use these visualizations wherever possible.
>>> “Show rather than tell,” especially when a great deal of text is involved!
>>> The power of an infographic is its visual aspect, so the more images
and visuals you use, the more effective it will be.

**#5 – “Colors and Other Design Elements”
Choose a color scheme that's appropriate to your infographic's topic.
For example:
>>> Issues related to the environment might use natural colors like
     sandy brown or ocean blue.
>>> Primary colors like red, yellow, and blue evoke energy or cheerfulness.
>>> Pick a handful of fonts that are clear and easy to read.
>>> Use icons and illustrations to help explain ideas or make the content visually                    appealing. Include white space so the infographic doesn't feel crowded.

**#6 – “Keep the Ideas Coming!”
Ideas for content can come from anywhere:
>>>  What common questions can you answer through this visual content?
>>>  What problems does your audience face that you can fix?
>>>  What do they want to know?

Infographics are really easy to make, so include them in your content calendar.
