Why Personality Traits Are More Important To Your Business than IQ, Especially in the Home Cleaning Services Categories!
IQ vs EI - definitions:
(IQ) stands for "intelligence quotient"
(EI) stands for "emotional intelligence" (or "personality traits")
A growing body of evidence today strongly indicates that a basic human quality that we've tended to overlook has become more important than we ever realized could occur! This quality is called "emotional intelligence" (personality traits) and based on the incredible social behavioral changes in our current society, it has become far more important for our service businesses success than one's IQ!
IQ vs EI - basic definitions
(IQ) stands for "intelligence quotient" and it is basically a measure of academic intelligence. IQ is determined by one's performance on standardized tests performing a variety of different tasks.
(EI) "emotional intelligence" is the ability to identify, assess, and control the emotions of oneself, of others, and of groups !!
IQ is very important if you're going to college, but what about in life generally? "Emotional Intelligence", which refers to your personality traits (EI), is your ability to recognize, understand, improve and regulate emotions. That makes it the foundation of your people skills or "soft skills." These also happen to be the most critical skills needed in our home cleaning services industry!
Most important of all, EI can be learned and IQ cannot. By developing skills coupled with positive training, you can substantially improve your emotional intelligence (personality traits). This is why today (EI) is now playing such a key role in business management and is especially important in all phases of our home cleaning & environmental services businesses!
EI Brings Success in Life (as well as in business)
High IQ is no guarantee of success in life. On the other hand, studies show that people with both a high IQ and a well developed EI are far more likely to be successful in both their personal and professional lives.
The reason is that IQ helps you solve problems, learn things, reason and remember details. But with the addition of a high emotional intelligence, you're also more self-aware and more in control of both your emotions as well as the emotions of those you deal with. In addition, you're also more empathetic and positive! These are factors that have a far greater impact on your success than simply academic intelligence or "hard skills" alone.
Emotions drive people. High emotional intelligence is linked with high motivation. People with high EI have a drive that goes beyond the desire for money or title. Their inner motivation pushes them toward achieving their life goals.
EI for the Future
One of the reasons why EI research is on the rise today is that it has been found to have enormous relevance in this changing modern business world. IQ helps with innovation and that's important. But IQ can't solve the major problems the world faces today. The simple fact is that people are more stressed, lonely and isolated today than they have ever been!
This digital, high-tech world fails to deal with these basic human issues that the over focus on IQ has given us. Unfortunately, IQ simply doesn't help us communicate at the personal 'human' level, connecting with others and building strong relationships, especially with the incredible social behavioral changes in our current society!
Don't misunderstand, IQ is far from useless. It helps in many different situations with logic, problem solving, creativity and learning new things. But without a strong foundation of EI first, it has become impossible for us to realize all that our IQ alone can provide.
SUMMARY:
Improving your emotional intelligence will make a major difference in your life both professionally and personally by teaching you more about your own emotions and those of the people around you, such as employees, customers, and prospects!.
Improved EI will help you with the following, and much, much more!
#1 - To identify, evaluate, control and express your own emotions;
#2 - To recognize, and assess others' emotions;
#3 - To use emotions to help your thinking & understanding of emotional meanings.
