This Stain Has an Odor That Can "Gag a Maggot"!
One of the most nauseating odors that your customers may call you for are those from decomposing milk, as well as other dairy drinks, protein shakes, and baby formula
If attended to right away, most of these spills are water soluble and easily removed with your standard cleaning techniques.
However, if any of these contaminants are allowed to to remain on the surface, and worse yet, underneath fabric or carpet for extended periods of time, the protein components in the drinks tend to create a stubborn hard to remove residue, as well as horribly offensive odors. Because of the confined space and high inside temperatures that often occur within cars, odors from these spills are especially objectionable when the spills are on automobile upholstery or carpet.
Follow these steps for successful removal of contaminants from milk, formula, and protein shakes.
#1. Determine the extent of the problem.
A large volume spill should be treated for odor as well, and in most cases the odor will be so overpowering your customer will have already requested this service.
#2. Pre-spray with an alkaline preconditioning agent
suitable for the fabric or carpet you are cleaning. If the fabric contains natural fibers, it should be dye tested to make sure that the pre-conditioner doesn't cause color bleeding or color fading.
#3. Extract with warm water.
#4. If the stain remains . . .
(with protein shakes and formula it often will remain), apply an enzyme spotter/deodorizer, then allow dwell time. Choose an enzyme product that is rated effective for stain removal as well as odor removal. By using this as your treatment product, you are quite likely to remove both the stain and the odor in one step!
#5. Extract again.
Additional applications as well as longer periods of dwell time may be necessary, so price and advise your customer accordingly.
inject the enzyme deodorizer. The amount of fluid you may need to inject to treat the odor in upholstery can potentially cause water stains, bleeding, or even browning. Make sure your customer is aware of these risks. The application of an absorbent powder over the area that was injected can potentially prevent or minimize water stains, browning, and sometimes even bleeding.
"Note: The amount of fluid that you may need to inject into upholstery may cause water stains, bleeding, or browning"!
#7. Repeat if needed.
SPECIAL NOTE: As with any procedure that could require repeated treatments, try to perform this service at your location, not your customers, and price accordingly.
