Breaking Your Minds Cycle of Telling You False Stories
Ready to Break Your Minds Cycle of Telling You False Stories?
Note from Lee . . . re Module #3:
In last week's article, I shared a small portion of Module #2 from a special 4 module course
Jim & I have recently compiled based on our experiences during our 50+ years in business.
The past excerpts I shared were regarding the fact that by changing the stories that you tell yourself, you have the power to significantly alter the way you think, feel, and act. It can help you to change the direction of your life, and develop new, positive as well as healthier habits.
This weeks' article shares a very important portion of the first segment of Module #3:
In this module, you will discover what you need in order to start changing your own internal stories. From adopting a new mindset to addressing past painful issues, there are a number of steps you can take to make positive changes in your life.
So, let's get started and uncover the actual facts behind those stories your brain keep telling you!
You are going to need to adopt an entirely new mindset if you really want to break the false story cycle. If you want to begin telling yourself positive stories, you will also need to have a positive mindset.
Having determined that, it's important to realize that adopting a new mindset is not easy. It will take time, perseverance, and serious commitment on your part. There will be days where you feel like your mindset is never going to change, no matter how much effort you put in. The secret is to keep pushing through even when it feels hopeless.
If you are ready to start changing your mindset, lets' examine the simple steps below:
Step #1 - Choosing an “I Can” & “I Will”, Growth Mindset
When you are telling yourself false stories, it's very likely that they start with things like “I can't” and “I won't”. Here are a few examples that you might recognize:
“I can't have it all.”
“I won't do this because”
“I can't change! - I'm too stuck in my ways.”
If you want to adopt a new mindset, switching to “I can” and “I will” can help. If you think you can't do something, you won't. But even if you don't fully believe it right now, telling your mind that you can and will make a change and get things done, will slowly change your mindset.
Step #2 - Consider Learning to Meditate
Special Note:
Meditation is one of the best tools you can use to adjust your mindset.
Meditation teaches you how to live in the present and appreciate the world around you. There is a common misconception that meditation is purely for those who are into a new-age way of thinking. Many people also give up before they have even started because they feel it is too difficult.
The truth is, even just 5-10 minutes of meditation each day can help keep you grounded. There are lots of online videos to help you learn, and it isn't as difficult as you might think. I suggest beginning with guided meditations and eventually you'll work your way up to your own self-guided sessions.
Step #3 - Challenge Your Limiting Beliefs
The limiting beliefs you hold about yourself really hold you back from achieving a better life. It could be that you think you just aren't good enough, or that you don't believe you deserve to be happy.
Write down any limiting beliefs you are aware that you currently hold and then challenge them. Why aren't you good enough? What makes you so different from everyone else that you think you don't deserve the same level of respect, opportunities, and happiness?
Counteract these limited beliefs with positivity. Remind yourself of your good points, skills, and all of the things you have overcome so far. Are you going to continue holding yourself back, or will you break the cycle and realize you can do anything you want to?
Step #4 - Change Your Self-Talk
Similar to challenging your beliefs, you also need to change your self-talk. How you talk about yourself matters a great deal! Whether you regularly put yourself down to others, or you struggle to silence that inner critic, negative self-talk is going to shred your confidence and leave you feeling helpless.
Learn to identify when you are putting yourself down and being negative. Then, instantly change it to a compliment.
Here's an example:
Negative thought: “I always fail, I'll never be good enough.”
Positive thought: “I sometimes fail, like everyone does. I am good enough and I will succeed.”
It isn't easy to change your self-talk, and you will need to really stick at it. However, the better you get at identifying when it is happening, the easier it will become to start focusing on the positive. (much, much more in the ecourse)
