SPOTTING - SYRUP

INTRODUCTION
The common element in
spills of pancake syrup, honey, jam, jelly and similar sticky
substances is lots of sugar to be removed.
If you apply too much
heat to sugar, you get caramel, which is even harder to remove.
Using hot water is fine, but keep temperatures below 180°F.

PROCEDURE
STEP 1:
Remove excess by using a
bone scraper, blunt knife or similar tool along with some
white cotton
spotting towels.
STEP 2:
Flush thoroughly. Use slow wand strokes. Follow with dry passes.
STEP 3:
Apply
Avenge Neutral Spotter.
STEP 4:
Use a
bone scraper to work this into the fibers or use a
tamping brush and an absorbent white
spotting towel. Tamp the spot into the towel.
STEP 5:
Extract with hot water. Keep in mind the temperature limitation of
180°F mentioned in the introduction.
CONCLUSION
Most dribbles and drips of
syrup and other "stickies" should respond well to your
cleaning efforts. There are two possible exceptions.
One is old spills that have
oxidized. These may require extended dwell time to
respond. You might try covering the spot with a hot
damp towel for several minutes to soften it before
attempting to clean.
The other potential problem
is the large spill - someone has dropped and spilled a full
bottle of Mrs. Butterworth's best pancake syrup. This
may get into the carpet backing or even the pad due to the
sheer volume of the spill. Repeated flushing using the
Water Claw Spot Lifter tool may get the job done. But
pad replacement might be needed. While the carpet is
turned back, be sure to clean the back side of the carpet
while it is exposed.
