SPOT & STAIN REMOVAL COLA
Scott Warrington

INTRODUCTION
Many beverage spills will be removed by standard hot water extraction procedures. On low pile commercial carpet or anytime a large volume of liquid is spilled, wick back after cleaning will be a concern.

Encapsulation cleaning of commercial carpets is an excellent way to clean beverage spills and greatly reduce the possibility of wicking. See the Technical Resource Bulletins on Encapsulation Cleaning and Wicking & Recurring Stains for additional information.

Quick Guide PROCEDURE
  1. Flush.
  2. Apply Avenge Neutral Spotter.
  3. Tamp into white towel.
  4. Allow dwell time.
  5. Extract with water.
  6. Dry carpet.

PROCEDURE

STEP 1:
Flush thoroughly with water. The Spot Lifter by Water Claw is an excellent tool for this use. Place the Spot Lifter over the stain. Apply a slow but steady stream of water around the outside of the stain using the Spot Lifter to pull the water through the stain and flush it.

A valve on the end of your solution hose will help control water flow.

The Spot Lifter will not work well on some commercial glue down carpet due to lack of air flow through the carpet. In this situation, simply flush with your carpet wand and make several extra dry passes.

STEP 2:
Apply Avenge Neutral Spotter.

STEP 3:
Use a tamping brush and white cotton towel and tamp the spot into the towel.

STEP 4:
Allow 2-3 minutes dwell time.

STEP 5:
Extract with water.

STEP 6:
Dry using an air mover.

ALTERNATE STEPS:
After Step 5 you may spray apply a 50/50 mix of Encapuguard and water. This greatly assists in stopping wicking without re-cleaning with Encapuclean.

Note:
Encapsulation cleaning using Encapuclean or Encapuclean with Maxim is particularly effective on low pile commercial carpet. Beverage stains won't wick back.

CONCLUSION
The ultimate solution to wicking stains such as soft drinks is to flush so thoroughly that there is no staining material left to wick back. However, time allotted to do a job and other constraints may not allow you to use this ultimate solution on every spill on every job. For those jobs, keep a quart trigger sprayer handy. Fill it with equal parts Encapuguard and water. Give a good spray to any potential problem areas.
