AREA RUGS

Introduction
Not all area rugs are made with natural fibers. It
is common to find area rugs that are made of synthetic fibers such
as olefin, nylon or acrylic. If you encounter a synthetic area rug,
it is usually no more difficult to clean than standard wall to wall
carpeting. This article will explain how to treat rugs made from
one of these fibers.
Procedure
-
STEP 1 ---
Identify the fiber or fibers prior to taking the rug out of the
home. Be sure to test carefully to make sure there are no natural
fibers present.
-
STEP 2 ---
Vacuum both sides of the rug thoroughly.
-
STEP 3 ---
Pre-treat the fringes of the rug. (See brochure on cleaning fringes
of area rugs).
-
STEP 4 ---
Pre-spray the rug with Traffic Slam boosted with Citrus Solv
and Boost-All.
-
STEP 5 ---
Extract the rug with Point Blue in your extraction machine.
In some cases you may wish to run Fab-Set through the machine during
the extraction step but you may lose some clean-ability in extreme
soil situations.
-
STEP 6 ---
Spray a light mist of Fab-Set on the rug, (if you did not
extract with it already), and extract the fringes with Fab-Set,
using an upholstery tool.
-
STEP 7 ---
Dry quickly with air movers.
-
NOTE ---
If the rug is made of nylon, you should pre-spray with Hydro
Break and extract with Fiber Plus. It is also recommended that you
protect the rug with Bridgepoint Maxim.

* HELPFUL HINT
It may be appropriate to have a separate
pricing structure for synthetic rugs than for wool and silk rugs. You do
not have nearly the risk, and the rugs are not as difficult to clean.
* CAUTION
If you have a crushed pile or furniture indentations on an olefin or
acrylic rug, point it out to the customer prior to leaving the home.
This is not something that can be corrected with cleaning. |
