Tag - You're it!

Drive clicks to your website by ‘tagging’ it correctly.

Now that you’re aware of what kinds of content to include on your website, there are also some logistics that you should know.

The following are just some of the components that should be included in the code of the website. If you are unsure about this area, contact your webmaster.

  • Tags Make sure that your TITLE and ALT tags are descriptive and accurate. The text you use in the title tag is one of the most important factors in how a search engine, such as Google, may decide to rank your web page.

  • The META description tag allows you to influence the description of your page.

  • META keywords. Choosing the right keywords and search phrases is an important step in Internet marketing.

The goal is to find search phrases that will generate search engine traffic to your website.

For instance, if you had a page about “commercial cleaning” — AND you say the words “commercial cleaning” at various places in your body copy — then mentioning the words “commercial cleaning” in the meta keywords tag can help boost your page a bit higher for those words.

Remember, if you don’t use the words “commercial cleaning” on the page at all, then just adding them to the meta keywords tag is extremely unlikely to help the page do well for the term.

Also, it’s important to think like the customer… what words or search phrases would they be likely use? Try to avoid using “industry” words laypeople won't know.
